Vacations are awesome; no one disagrees with that. Whether you are a little kid going to Disney World or celebrating retirement with a trip to Greece, the desire to “treat yo self” is in our DNA. Parks & Recreation characters Tom and Donna, coined the “treat yo self” phrase in an episode from 2011, and we at Lulafit have echoed this message ever since.
After spending several months exhausting yourself at the office and gym, it’s incredibly important to take a “wellness vacation” in order to rejuvenate your mind and body while taking a step away from all the hustle and bustle. This blog is certainly not for spring breakers looking for the best all inclusive resort in Cancún featuring bottomless Tequila shots. Rather, I will share a couple different vacation options centered around health and wellness so you can treat yourself to some peaceful serenity.
Depending on your budget, you may not feel like dropping thousands of dollars on a trip across the world to Tibet where you can practice yoga and meditation with the Dalai Lama. Thankfully, the first wellness vacation requires little travel, time and money. Sensory deprivation tanks can be the ultimate sixty minute wellness vacation for anyone looking to decompress. These “floating tanks” are popping up all across the United States and becoming increasingly popular among professional athletes such as Steph Curry (Golden State Warriors) to supplement recovery. These tanks are filled with 8 to 12 inches of 95 degree water (same
as outside body temperature) and 1,000 pounds of epsom salt (magnesium sulfate). This high concentration of epsom salt simulates the same natural experience as the Dead Sea; you float! However, sensory deprivation tanks take it one step further by eliminating light, sound and gravity.
The tanks offer physical/mental benefits including the release of lactic acid, a decrease in blood pressure, enhanced quality of sleep, and an increase in concentration. For your next wellness vacation, check out a floating tank center such as “Float Sixty” located in River North, Chicago.
If you’re looking for a little more than a floating tank but don’t have the time to travel, take advantage of Lulafit’s massage therapy and esthetic services. LulaFit’s massage therapist team will come to you and help determine the best type of massage based on your current needs– saving you both time and inconvenience. After you’ve undergone a life changing massage, you can supplement your spa day with Lulafit’s new esthetic services, such custom facials or a body scrub. Once your skin has been rejuvenated and beautified, you can top the day off by having your own private LulaFit chef prepare some sautéed salmon with citrus salsa followed by a delicate créme brûlée. If that isn’t a day of treating yourself, I don’t know what is!
There is a chance you want more than a floating tank and LulaFit Spa day, and if so, it may be time to spin the globe and pack your bags. Del Mar, California is an excellent option if you want to stay in the United States for your relaxing getaway. The oceanside town is located roughly thirty minutes north of San Diego and is perfect for a restorative vacation where you can surf, practice yoga, or just hangout on Solana Beach.
If you have a valid passport and a fever to go beyond the border, Costa Rica could be the next country you cross off your travel bucket list. Costa Rica is considered the greenest country on the planet as it is home to over 9,000 species of flora and fauna. Costa Rica has plenty of resorts, such as the Four Seasons in the Northwest corner of the country where you can go ziplining, white water rafting, and scuba diving. You can also venture down south to Limón on the southeast side of the country where you can continue exploring the wildlife and relax at beautiful beaches such as Playa Bonita and Playa Negra.
Whether you stay at home or plan a destination vacation, it’s important to take time out of your life to slow everything down, breath, and treat yo self.
